Going Rogue: A Rant

So, my friend Megan blogged about Sarah Palin coming to Salt Lake City. She asked that, rather than talk trash about Palin on her blog, for readers to talk trash about Palin on our own blogs. So here I go, talking trash about Palin on my blog.

Megan posted about Palin coming to Salt Lake City to sign a few copies of her new book, Going Rogue. The book is supposedly about her rise to fame during last year's election. Rush Limbaugh called the book to be "truly one of the most substantive policy books I've read". Limbaugh is critical of environmentalism and climate science and regularly disputes the scientific evidence of anthropogenic climate change. He is also critical of feminism and has said that "feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society".

As an environmentalist, a feminist, and a believer of anthropogenic climate change, I could not disagree with Limbaugh more. So, if he likes Palin's book and is calling it a policy book (as opposed to an autobiography, which it is), I should clearly be skeptical.

People who have read the book have called it "forgettable". It has been called "poorly written". Many people have also pointed out the fact that her editor did not check the facts of the book. One reader said that, "I see no evidence she reads as an intellectual adventure or to change her mind. This is dangerous in a political leader as it tends to make leadership personality driven rather than idea driven".

Now, Palin views her son's Down Syndrome as a "gift from God". How could a mental disease be viewed as a gift from god? If god is so almighty, why would he bestow a disease on a human? Wouldn't this god make everyone healthy?

Palin praised Dubya's $700 billion bailout, but opposed Obama's $787 billion bailout. What's the difference? Oh, it's just ideologies. After all, you shouldn't support anything from anyone with views that are different than your own, right?

She is against gay rights.

She supports teaching intelligent design in schools.

She supports drilling for oil in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge.

She kills wolves from a helicopter.

She is crazy.

Her book is irrelevant minutiae that will only serve as a distraction away from more important news topics, like health care reform, civil rights issues, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Sarah Palin, you and your book can suck it.
